General and Colorectal Surgeon

Siraj is a New Zealand born and trained, General and Colorectal surgeon offering treatment across the full spectrum of colorectal conditions. His expertise includes the management of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticular disease, and anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures, and fistulas. He is especially experienced in pelvic floor disorders, including rectal prolapse and faecal incontinence.

After his General Surgery training, Siraj further honed his specialisation in colorectal surgery with Fellowships at prestigious institutions in Cambridge and Oxford. During his time in the UK, he gained expertise in surgical techniques associated with faster post-operative recovery, including laparoscopic colorectal surgery and doppler-guided haemorrhoidal artery ligation (HALO). He is actively involved in the development of bowel cancer care as the Chair of the Northern Cancer Network Bowel Tumour Stream and as a member of the National Bowel Cancer Working Group.

In addition to colorectal procedures, Siraj offers a range of general surgical services, including colonoscopy, gallbladder surgery, hernia repairs, and skin surgery.

Siraj has been a consultant surgeon at Health NZ Waitemata (North Shore Hospital) since 2013, and is the Clinical Director of General Surgery. He is also a Fellowship examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
