Colorectal and General Surgeon and Endoscopist

John Jarvis is a seasoned colorectal and general surgeon with nearly 20 years of experience. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons [FRACS] in 2005 after completing speciality training in General Surgery. Driven by a commitment to support patients with colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, John pursued additional training in colorectal surgery with the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand, joining the society as a member in 2008 [MCSSANZ].

John’s practice spans a broad scope of colorectal and general surgeries, including laparoscopic bowel resections for both cancerous and benign conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease and diverticulosis. His proctology services include haemorrhoid surgery (HAL-RAR and fistula repair), video-assisted ablation, and Botox treatment for anal fissures. John also performs a wide range of general surgeries, from laparoscopic and open hernia repairs to gallbladder surgery (cholecystectomy) and pilonidal sinus treatment (EPSiT).

In addition to his surgical practice, John has made significant contributions to surgical education and leadership. For nine years, he served as the supervisor for advanced surgical training at North Shore Hospital and later spent three years on the New Zealand General Surgery Board’s Training Committee. Currently, John is a director at Waitemata Endoscopy and the General Surgical representative on the Senior Medical Advisory Committee at North Shore Hospital.

John is known for his clear and compassionate communication with his patients. He encourages questions and ensures that they fully understand their condition, treatment options, and postoperative care. Patients can consult with John at his main office in Takapuna or at his satellite clinics in Silverdale and West Auckland. After assessment, each patient receives a comprehensive explanation of their condition and a tailored approach to investigative and surgical treatment when necessary.
